Rom 3 (NKJV) ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
²¹ But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets,
²² even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference;
²³ for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
²⁴ being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,
²⁵ whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed,
²⁶ to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
3 works of Jesus Christ on the cross Justification: it is a term from the courts, Sinners stand condemn in God’s court(law), and yet freely declared “not guilty” anyone who places faith in Christ
Redemption: is a borrowed term from the slave market. All people are slaves to sin from their fallen nature, but Christian are purchased by God and freed to a new life in Christ
Propitiation: is a term borrowed from the temple rites, where the sacrificial animal figuratively comes under God’s wrath as it is killed. Jesus received God’s wrath on the Cross. By our faith in Christ, God’s wrath is counted satisfied and we are no longer under wrath.
The righteousness of God was manifested and given in the event of the cross. Sinners gain pardon not through their adherence to the law , but through faith in the One who fulfilled all righteousness on our behalf Jesus Christ.
The law and prophets refers to the old testament and the entire old testament is correctly understood as a witness to Jesus and His work.
