Minister of power on a one day working visit to Sokoto State.

During a one-day working visit to Sokoto State, the minister of power witnessed the remarkable progress being made in the power sector. He was inspired to see the recently completed 38 megawatts Independent Power Plant built by the State government.

He also visited the Goronyo Dam with a view to collaborating with the state government on the possibility of building a 15MW Hydro Electric Power plant.

The 2023 Electricity Act has paved the way for subnational governments to invest in the electricity value chain.

He commend Sokoto State for seizing this opportunity and investing in infrastructure that will benefit its citizens and drive economic growth.

The minister said Power is critical to the performance of every sector, and Sokoto State’s commitment to providing reliable and affordable electricity is commendable.
He advised other state governments to emulate Sokoto’s example and invest in the power sector value chain.

He assured the people of Sokoto that the federal government, through the Ministry of Power and its agencies, will provide every necessary support to ensure the success of this project, assuring that the dividends of this investment will reach the citizens.

He promised to address any concerns and bottlenecks delaying the take-off of the plant, he also invited all parties involved in the project to a meeting in his office.

So they can work together to resolve any issues and ensure that the project moves forward as swiftly as possible.

The minister commend Sokoto State for not only building the power plant but also having the ancillary infrastructure in place. With the switch yard, substation, and 33KVA lines already in place, the foundation for success has been laid.

The minister said he is confident that with collective efforts and commitment, every challenges will be overcome , realizing the full potential of this project.

Together, we will ensure that Sokoto State and Nigeria as a whole have access to reliable and affordable electricity.
