Marina & Mile 2 Interchange: Resettlement Action Plan, Compensation in Progress

In preparation for the commencement of work on the transport interchanges projects at Mile 2, the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has commenced the implementation of the resettlement action plan for the project with the payment of compensation to project affected persons (PAPs).
The interchanges are being built at Mile 2 and Marina under the Lagos State Transport Master Plan Project (LSTMPP) phase 1.
More than 600 PAPs will be compensated around the Mile 2 area.
At the handing over of cheques to the PAPs, the Director of Rail Transport, Engr. Olasunkanmi Okusaga represented the Managing Director of LAMATA, Engr. Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo.
The project which aims to streamline Lagos’ transportation system by providing an integrated, multimodal transport system is being funded by Agence Française de Développement (AFD).
The initiative will see the construction of interchanges designed to integrate four modes of transportation, water, rail, bus and non-motorized transport into a single hub to provide Lagosians with a more efficient and interconnected travel experience.
The compensation payment, coming after several months of stakeholders’ engagement to ensure fair treatment for residents impacted by the construction, is in line with the AFD’s Environmental and Social contractual requirements.
This commitment demonstrates the project’s focus on both infrastructural development and community well-being.
