Deputy speaker house of representatives condemns the attack on military checkpoint

The Deputy speaker house of representatives HON Benjamin Kalu has strongly condemn the attack at the military checkpoint at Obikabia Junction in the Ogbor Hill area of Aba, Abia State, on Thursday, May 30, 2024, by yet-to-be-identified assailants, which reportedly left four soldiers dead.

The killing of these military personnel, who were carrying out their lawful duties, was unwarranted, outrageous, cruel, and totally condemnable.

The Deputy speaker wishes to remind us that Aba is the commercial nerve center of the Southeast and therefore, a home for people from all walks of life.

The people of Aba are known for their enterprising spirit and technical skills. They cannot be hoodwinked into thinking that locking up their shops, closing their businesses, and staying at home is in their best interest.

The Deputy speaker urge the people not to trade their known hospitality for violence, as it is alien to the culture of Ndi Igbo.

While efforts are ongoing to quell the rising wave of insecurity and restore peace in the entire Southeast region through a non-kinetic approach championed by the Peace In South East (PISE-P) initiative, it is indeed unnecessary to engage in acts capable of truncating the gains already made.

The Deputy speaker appealed to the people to support the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which has vested an unusual interest in the development of the Southeast.

Doing otherwise will only affect the progress of our state and region.
Let us work together towards restoring peace and tranquility to Igbo land
