Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress, the country’s largest unions, asked their members, including electricity workers, to down tools on Monday in protest over the government’s proposed new minimum wage of N60,000.

A dispute between the labour union and the federal government over what should be the new minimum wage has thrown Africa’s most populous nation into a total blackout amid a cost-of-living crisis that has hit households and the business community.
