President Bola Tinubu slipped while boarding the presidential parade vehicle at the venue of the 2024 Democracy Day, on Wednesday.
The event was held at the Eagles square in Abuja.
The incident occurred as the president approached the vehicle shortly after his arrival at the venue.
Although he momentarily lost his footing,
Tinubu quickly regained his balance and continued with the programme, which later result to the statement that claimed “dobale” as it’s a act of respect for democracy and a Yoruba man.
President Bola Tinubu therefore admitted that his reforms have created hardship for Nigerians, but he added that they are necessary to bring about the needed change the country had longed for.
Tinubu made this declaration in a national broadcast to commemorate the 2024 Democracy Day and the 25th year of uninterrupted democratic rule in the country.
He reflect as a beneficiary of the historic efforts of the heroes of democracy, he was morally bound to preserve the present form of government.
“As President of this nation, I am morally and constitutionally bound to preserve this precious form of governance.
“I vow to do my utmost best to protect your rights, freedoms, and liberties as citizens of Nigeria.
“Even more than that, I pledge to do whatever is necessary to cement democracy as our way of life,” he said.
The President thanked Nigerians for the opportunity to lead the country and promised not to turn his back on them.
According to him, as Nigerians, we must remind ourselves that no matter how complicated democracy may be, it is the best form of governance in the long run.
“We must also be aware that there are those among us who will try to exploit current challenges to undermine, if not destroy this democracy for which so much has already been given.
Alongside his speech, president Tinubu had earlier addressed the issue of minimum wage in his national broadcast to mark the 25th anniversary of unbroken democracy in Nigeria.
He promised that the new national minimum wage will soon be sent to the national assembly for approval.
“We shall soon send an executive bill to the national assembly to enshrine what has been agreed upon as part of our law for the next five years or less,” Tinubu said.
“I take on this vital task without fear or favour and I commit myself to this work until we have built a Nigeria where no man is oppressed.
