former striker Kevin Campbell of Everton and Arsenal passed away at the age of 54.
In 542 appearances throughout stints with eight clubs, Campbell scored 148 goals in his career.
In addition to playing for Leyton Orient, Leicester, Nottingham Forest, Trabzonspor, Everton, West Brom, and Cardiff, he won four major trophies with Arsenal.
Before turning to broadcasting, Campbell made his last appearance as a player in February 2007.
Everton revealed earlier this month that he was hospitalised and “very unwell” after falling ill in May. “We are devastated to learn that our former striker Kevin Campbell has died after a short illness,” announced Arsenal.
“Everyone at the club loved Kevin. We are all praying for his family and friends during this trying time. Kevin, rest in peace.
“We are all extremely saddened by the passing of our former striker Kevin Campbell at the age of just 54,” Everton stated.
“As anyone who has ever met him will attest, he was not just a legendary figure in English football and a great hero of Goodison Park, but also a remarkable individual. RIP, Super Kev.
