The peace that surpasses understanding In the midst of global economic recession and hardship

Ezekiel 34:25“I will make a covenant of peace with them, and cause wild beasts to cease from the land; and they will dwell safely in the wilderness and sleep in the woods.
The archetype of this covenant of peace is the covenant with Noah which the Lord swore after the flood to never again destroy all living things by water
Gen 9 (NKJV)
⁸ Then God spoke to Noah and to his sons with him, saying:
⁹ “And as for Me, behold, I establish My covenant with you and with your descendants after you,
¹⁰ and with every living creature that is with you: the birds, the cattle, and every beast of the earth with you, of all that go out of the ark, every beast of the earth.
¹¹ Thus I establish My covenant with you: Never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood; never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.”
¹² And God said: “This is the sign of the covenant which I make between Me and you, and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations:
¹³ I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth.
¹⁴ It shall be, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the rainbow shall be seen in the cloud;
¹⁵ and I will remember My covenant which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh.
¹⁶ The rainbow shall be in the cloud, and I will look on it to remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.”
¹⁷ And God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant which I have established between Me and all flesh that is on the earth.”
This covenant should be equated with the new covenant relationship, which will provide peace
“Therefore say, ‘Behold, I give to him My covenant of peace;”
— Num 25:12 (NKJV)

“So Joshua made peace with them, and made a covenant with them to let them live; and the rulers of the congregation swore to them.”
— Josh 9:15 (NKJV)
“Now it came to pass when Adoni-Zedek king of Jerusalem heard how Joshua had taken Ai and had utterly destroyed it—as he had done to Jericho and its king, so he had done to Ai and its king—and how the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel and were among them,”
— Josh 10:1 (NKJV)
“The Lord will give strength to His people; The Lord will bless His people with peace.”
— Ps 29:11 (NKJV)

“I will hear what God the Lord will speak, For He will speak peace To His people and to His saints; But let them not turn back to folly.”
— Ps 85:8 (NKJV)

“For the mountains shall depart And the hills be removed, But My kindness shall not depart from you, Nor shall My covenant of peace be removed,” Says the Lord, who has mercy on you.”
— Isa 54:10 (NKJV)
Because of sin man lost his peace with God

“And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.””
— Gen 3:15 (NKJV)

“Now Cain talked with Abel his brother; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.”
— Gen 4:8 (NKJV)
But peace was available through the Mosaic covenant as a result of obedience

“I will give peace in the land, and you shall lie down, and none will make you afraid; I will rid the land of evil beasts, and the sword will not go through your land.”
— Lev 26:6 (NKJV)

The covenant of peace looks forward to the blessings of Israel will experience in millennium. But even now peace may be experienced through relationship with Christ. It is only in Christ, the one true son of David, that this prophecy is fulfilled.

Some of the benefits have begun already such as the peace that surpasses understanding

— “Phil 4 (NKJV)
⁶ Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;
⁷ and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Anxious refers to worry
Mat 6 (NKJV)
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
²⁵ “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?
²⁶ Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
²⁷ Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?
²⁸ So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin;
²⁹ and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
³⁰ Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
³¹ Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’
³² For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
³³ But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
³⁴ Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Prayer is the antidote for anxiety. Three words express aspects of prayer. Prayer is a worshipful attitude; supplication our need; and request, the specific concern. Thanksgiving shapes prayer with gratitude. In response, the peace of God brings power to endure. The peace calms a troubling situation when explanation fails. Further peace guard by keeping anxieties from our hearts ( choices) and minds ( attitudes).

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
— John 14:27 (NKJV)

Other benefits awaits full implementation at the time when messaih ( the promised David King) comes again. The mention of the wilderness implies the restoration of Israel will resemble a new exodus, reminiscent of the nation’s deliverance from Egyptian bondage.
