Exercise CAMP HIGHLAND: Cadets Commence Adventure and Leadership Training

As part of the activities lined up for Exercise CAMP HIGHLAND, the Army Cadets of the 71 Regular Course and Direct Short Service Course 28 of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) are currently participating in a week-long leadership and adventure training package at the Citizenship and Leadership Training Center, Mountain School, Shere Hills, Lamingo, Plateau State.

The training, themed “Instilling Leadership Skills and Survival Strategies for Effective Performance of Duty,” has as its objectives to further expose the cadets to additional leadership skills, strategies for self-survival, and qualities of self-discipline, patriotism, courage, and self-reliance to enable them render selfless service to the nation after commissioning into the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN).

The cadets engaged in a variety of challenging activities, including Rock Scrambling and Abseiling of the Gog and Magog rocks, Parachute Jump, and an Assault Course. They also participated in Rafting, Mapping 1 and 2, as well as Team Building exercises.

The event was attended by senior officers from NDA including the Director of Military Training (DMT), Brigadier General OA Awolo, the Chief Instructor of the Army Wing, Colonel MS Jaafar, and the Acting Chief Instructor of the Basic Officer Training Wing, Lieutenant Colonel AM Gidado. Instructors from both the NDA and the Citizenship and Leadership Training Center were also present to guide and mentor the cadets throughout the training.

The comprehensive training package is aimed at consolidating leadership skills acquired in military training and instilling national core values towards nation building as they perform their constitutional responsibilities as members of the AFN.The exercise is expected to have a significant impact on the cadets’ development, equipping them with the mindset required to excel in their duties and lead their troops effectively.
