CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF COMMISSIONS CIVIL MILITARY COOPERATION PROJECTS IN ABIA STATE

 

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja on 30 August 2024 commissioned some Civil Military Cooperation (CIMIC) projects in Ekeoba – Oriedu Umuahia North, Abia State. The projects included a Cottage Hospital, Borehole Water Plant, Installation of 500KVA Transformer, and a Community Multi-Purpose Hall within Ekeoba – Oriedu Autonomous Community of Umuahia North LGA of Abia State. 

 

The COAS enjoined the good people of Ekeoba-Oriedu to take advantage of the ernomous opportunity that their son, the project executor, has brought to their door-steps. He added that the Army was not competing with any government establishment but implementing non-kinetics means of warfare geared towards winning the hearts and minds of Nigerians with a view to contributing to the Nigerian Army’s strive in managing the nations’ insecurity and socio-economic challenges in our immediate environment. 

 

The four projects were executed by an illustrious son of Ekeoba-Oriedu, the Director General Nigeria Army Heritage and Future Center, Major General Obinna Ajunwa. Earlier in his welcome address, Maj Gen Ajunwa disclosed that the Nigerian Army has, over the years, enjoyed a robust relationship with the good people of Abia State.

 

The Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Chioma Otti OFR who was ably represented by the Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Emetu applauded the Nigerian Army for its giant strides, gestures, unwavering support and commitment towards making lives of Abians easy through the COAS Special Intervention CIMIC projects in the State. 

 

The commissioning ceremony was graced by former COAS Lieutenant General Azubuike Ihejirika (Rtd), Corp Commander Artillery, Principal Staff Officers from Army Headquarters. Others included the Commander 14 Brigade, Commandant Nigerian Navy College of Accounts and Finance, Senator Austin Akobundu, Honourable Obinna Aguicha, very senior serving and retired military officers, Abia State government functionaries among others. 

 

Highlights of the event was the breaking of kola-nuts which signified peace and welcome in the Igbo tradition by His Royal Majesty Eze Philip Ajumiwe Ndo 1 of Oriendu Autonomous Community, the unveiling of the four projects, tour of commissioned facilities, presentation of souvenirs, and group photographs
