Earlier today, the Jigawa State Government formally handed over the Hadejia Wetlands Game Reserve to the National Park Service of Nigeria. This wetland is home to over 400 species of migratory birds and a rich diversity of wildlife. The wetland will now be managed as a National Park under the Federal Ministry of Environment.
This decision highlights our administration’s obligations to environmental preservation, eco-tourism, and biodiversity protection. The Governor of Jigawa said his administration have worked tirelessly to ensure that this natural treasure will be preserved for future generations, while also providing new economic opportunities for local communities through sustainable tourism.
The Governor said he his confident that the National Park Service will explore the use of cutting-edge technologies, enhanced security measures, and community engagement to protect and develop this natural asset. The Governor said Together, we will make sure that the Hadejia Wetlands remain a source of joy for Jigawa State and an attraction for visitors from around the world.
