Governor Obaseki refurbished 60 primary healthcare centres across Edo State

 

His Excellency, GovernorObaseki was joined today by former President Olusegun Obasanjo; former First Lady of Nigeria, Dame Patience Jonathan; former governor of Sokoto State and Senator for Sokoto South, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal; former governors of Edo State, Chief Lucky Igbinedion and Chief Odigie Oyegun; as well as other prominent leaders.

As he commissioned the newly rebuilt and expanded 250-bed Stella Obasanjo Hospital, the Crèche, and the Food Court at the State Secretariat Complex, among other projects in the state capital.

Chief Igbinedion established the Stella Obasanjo Hospital, which unfortunately fell into disrepair after his tenure. During the COVID-19 pandemic,
It was used it as a treatment and isolation centre and subsequently the Obaseki administration decided to upgrade and rebuild it to provide specialist care, taking advantage of its 20-hectare site.

The Central Hospital was decommissioned and
relocated to its core medical facilities here, and today, it has been transformed it into a world-class facility as part of Governor Obaseki administration’s efforts to position the state as a hub for medical tourism.

Simultaneously, the administration have strengthened its primary healthcare system, the first point of contact for our citizens. The government established a primary healthcare agency, and today, which has the most robust primary healthcare system in Nigeria. This administration has refurbished 60 primary healthcare centres, with a goal to ensure each ward in the state has one.

Healthcare must go beyond infrastructure and embody the values of compassion, care, and hope, which is the very essence of the Stella Obasanjo Hospital the Governor said.
