Songs of Solomon 3:6
Who is this coming out of the wilderness Like pillars of smoke, Perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, With all the merchant’s fragrant powders?
The word this is feminine in Hebrew perhaps indicating the Shulamite was in the procession coming to Solomon OUT OF THE WILDERNESS
Songs of Solomon 8:5
Who is this coming up from the wilderness, Leaning upon her beloved? I awakened you under the apple tree. There your mother brought you forth; There she who bore you brought you forth.
Suggests two complimentary allusions: (1) Israel’s emergence from the wilderness they had entered after deliverance from Egypt.
Exodus 13:17-21
[17]When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country, though that was shorter. For God said, “If they face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.”
[18]So God led the people around by the desert road toward the Red Sea. The Israelites went up out of Egypt ready for battle.
[19]Moses took the bones of Joseph with him because Joseph had made the Israelites swear an oath. He had said, “God will surely come to your aid, and then you must carry my bones up with you from this place.”
[20]After leaving Sukkoth they camped at Etham on the edge of the desert.
[21]By day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night.
(2) Adams and Eve emergence from the wilderness they entered after disobedience
Genesis 3:1-24
[1]Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”
[2]The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,
[3]but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’ ”
[4]“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman.
[5]“For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
[6]When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.
[7]Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.
[8]Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden.
[9]But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”
[10]He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”
[11]And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”
[12]The man said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”
[13]Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
[14]So the Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this,
“Cursed are you above all livestock
And all wild animals!
You will crawl on your belly
And you will eat dust
All the days of your life.
[15]And I will put enmity
Between you and the woman,
And between your offspring and hers;
He will crush your head,
And you will strike his heel.”
[16]To the woman he said,
“I will make your pains in childbearing very severe;
With painful labor you will give birth to children.
Your desire will be for your husband,
And he will rule over you.”
[17]To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’
“Cursed is the ground because of you;
Through painful toil you will eat food from it
All the days of your life.
[18]It will produce thorns and thistles for you,
And you will eat the plants of the field.
[19]By the sweat of your brow
You will eat your food
Until you return to the ground,
Since from it you were taken;
For dust you are
And to dust you will return.”
[20]Adam named his wife Eve, because she would become the mother of all the living.
[21]The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.
[22]And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.”
[23]So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken.
[24]After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.
Journey through the wilderness is either by deliverance or disobedience.
The objective of Journey through the wilderness by deliverance
Deuteronomy 8:2-19
[2]Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands.
[3]He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.
[4]Your clothes did not wear out and your feet did not swell during these forty years.
[5]Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the Lord your God disciplines you.
[6]Observe the commands of the Lord your God, walking in obedience to him and revering him.
[7]For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land—a land with brooks, streams, and deep springs gushing out into the valleys and hills;
[8]a land with wheat and barley, vines and fig trees, pomegranates, olive oil and honey;
[9]a land where bread will not be scarce and you will lack nothing; a land where the rocks are iron and you can dig copper out of the hills.
[10]When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the Lord your God for the good land he has given you.
[11]Be careful that you do not forget the Lord your God, failing to observe his commands, his laws and his decrees that I am giving you this day.
[12]Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down,
[13]and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied,
[14]then your heart will become proud and you will forget the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
[15]He led you through the vast and dreadful wilderness, that thirsty and waterless land, with its venomous snakes and scorpions. He brought you water out of hard rock.
[16]He gave you manna to eat in the wilderness, something your ancestors had never known, to humble and test you so that in the end it might go well with you.
[17]You may say to yourself, “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.”
[18]But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.
[19]If you ever forget the Lord your God and follow other gods and worship and bow down to them, I testify against you today that you will surely be destroyed.
The objective of Journey through the wilderness by disobedience
1 Chronicles 4:9-10
[9]Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. His mother had named him Jabez, saying, “I gave birth to him in pain.”
[10]Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted his request.
There is nobody of woman that was not given birth to in pain
Genesis 3:16
To the woman He said: “I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; In pain you shall bring forth children; Your desire shall be for your husband, And he shall rule over you.”
God Almighty had made provision through Christ death on the cross to reconcile us back to him
Genesis 3:15
And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”
This i known in Christendom as the proevangelism news “ because it is the foretelling of the gospel of Jesus Christ. God announced here that a descendant would someday deal the serpent ( meaning Satan) a fatal blow on the head
Revelation 20:2,7-10
[2]He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years.
[7]When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison
[8]and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth—Gog and Magog—and to gather them for battle. In number they are like the sand on the seashore.
[9]They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of God’s people, the city he loves. But fire came down from heaven and devoured them.
[10]And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
The New Testament writers understood Jesus Christ to have fulfilled this prophecy
Hebrews 2:14
[14]Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil—
1 John 3:8
[8]The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.
The New Testament also indicates that God would work through the church- those indwelt by the Spirit of Christ- to destroy the works of the devil
Romans 16:20
[20]The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.
The assertion that the snake would only strike his opponent’s heel foreshadows that Christ wounding on the cross would not be permanently fatal.
