Governor of Plateau State launch solar power solutions to cover over 25 Primary Healthcare Centres

The Governor of Plateau State has said he his proud to announce the launch of the Nigeria Solar for Health Project (NISHP) in Plateau State, an initiative designed to provide sustainable solar power solutions to over 25 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across our 17 Local Government Areas.

This groundbreaking project, supported by the European Union (EU), marks a new chapter in the state journey toward reliable, quality healthcare, especially in rural areas where power supply challenges have long hampered services. With the deployment of solar energy, these PHCs will now have consistent electricity to power diagnostic equipment, store vaccines, and preserve life-saving medicines—a necessity for effective healthcare delivery.

The Governor said on assumption of office, less than 5% of over 1,000 PHCs in Plateau State were functional—a sobering reality that demanded urgent action. To date, the Governor said his administration have renovated 82 PHCs, and the solar project is a vital step in strengthening these facilities to serve the people of Plateau better. By ensuring that at least one PHC in every LGA receives solar power, the Governor said is administration is not just are improving healthcare but also empowering small businesses, as 75 enterprises within these facilities will also benefit from this clean energy initiative.

The Governor extended his are gratitude to it partners at the European Union for their unwavering support and shared vision. Their emphasis on renewable energy underscores a global commitment to sustainability, while Plateau State’s 30% counterpart funding reflects the state determination to invest in the health and well-being of our people.

This collaboration is a testament to what can be achieved when partnerships are rooted in trust and a shared mission. The Governor said he is confident that the success of the Nigeria Solar for Health Project will not only improve healthcare but also position Plateau State as a beacon of progress and development in Nigeria.
