Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) Managing Director, Engr. Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, today led a team of technical staff from the Roads and Infrastructure department on an inspection of the ongoing Quality Bus Corridor project.
The project comprises three key corridors: Package 1a: Ketu-Alapere-Akanimodo 1b: Yaba-Lawanson-Ijesha-Cele, package 2: Abule Egba-Iju Ishaga, package 3: Igando-Iyana Iba and is being funded by the Lagos State Government and Agence Française de Développement.
The initiative aims to significantly improve public transportation by introducing laybys with shelters and improving junctions to enhance traffic flow. It also includes revamping three major bus corridors with remodelled walkways and laybys.
The project also involves the construction of new depots and terminals along the designated bus routes. A total of 89 bus stops along the three corridors will be upgraded, five new terminals will be built, 13 existing terminals will be revamped, and new depots will be built. The project also includes provisions for drivers’ lounges, wash bays, and security houses.
LAMATA officials, including Engr. Adeyemi Adeniji, Engr. Olufemi Fayombo, Engr. Oluwakemi Ochei, Engr. Kayode Saalu, and Engr. Olalekan Olaniyan, were present at the inspection along with contractors and consultants Advanced Engineering Consultants (AEC).
