The African Union Commission (AUC) has congratulated the Republic of South Africa on assuming the rotating presidency of the G20 and preparing to host the group’s summit on African soil for the first time in history.
In a statement, the AUC commended South Africa’s growing influence in global governance and its unwavering commitment to promoting the interests of the Global South.
“As the current G20 Chair, South Africa has shown remarkable leadership in advancing sustainable development and inclusive global governance,” the Commission stated.
The AUC further lauded South Africa’s vibrant democracy, anchored in a Constitution that upholds equality, human rights, and the rule of law — principles that align with the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.
Highlighting the nation’s cultural and social diversity, the Commission noted that South Africans of various races, languages, and faiths coexist in unity, describing this inclusivity as a “source of national strength and global admiration.”
The African Union also called on international partners to engage with South Africa and the wider African continent on the basis of mutual respect and constructive cooperation, emphasizing Africa’s critical role in promoting global peace, sustainable development, and shared prosperity.
