BREAKING: Nigeria, US Conduct Successful Precision Strikes on ISIS Terrorist Enclaves in Sokoto

Abuja, December 26, 2025 – The Federal Government of Nigeria, in close coordination with the United States, has carried out precision strike operations against two major Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist enclaves in the Bauni forest area of Tangaza Local Government Area, Sokoto State.
Intelligence reports confirmed these sites were serving as assembly and staging points for foreign ISIS elements entering Nigeria from the Sahel region, working with local affiliates to plot large-scale attacks on Nigerian soil.
The operations took place between 00:12 and 01:30 hours on Friday, December 26, 2025, after direct approval from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Conducted under Nigerian command structures, the strikes involved full participation from the Armed Forces of Nigeria, overseen by the Ministers of Defence and Foreign Affairs, and the Chief of Defence Staff.
Launched from maritime platforms in the Gulf of Guinea following thorough intelligence, planning, and reconnaissance, the operation deployed 16 GPS-guided precision munitions via MQ-9 Reaper drones, effectively neutralizing the targeted ISIS forces infiltrating from the Sahel.
Debris from the munitions landed in Jabo (Tambuwal LGA, Sokoto State) and Offa (Kwara State, near a hotel), with no civilian casualties reported. Authorities quickly secured the sites.
The government reaffirms its commitment to dismantling terrorist threats, especially transnational networks challenging Nigeria’s sovereignty and security.
Nigeria continues strong alignment with international partners for coordinated efforts toward lasting peace, secure borders, and regional stability.
The Federal Government assures citizens of full control over national security and pledges ongoing protection of lives and property.
Nigerians are urged to stay calm and vigilant amid continued actions against terror groups.
Statement issued by Mohammed Idris, Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation.
