ENUGU – An aircraft operated by Enugu Air suffered a nose landing gear malfunction during landing at Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu on Thursday, prompting the activation of emergency protocols and the safe evacuation of all passengers and crew.
The incident involved the aircraft with registration number 5N-BZN, which was arriving from Lagos. According to a statement from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the fault occurred at approximately 19:10 hrs while the plane was touching down on Runway 08, rendering it immobile on the runway shortly after landing.
FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, confirmed that the aircraft is owned by Enugu Air, a commercial airline launched by the Enugu State Government in July 2025.
“All passengers and crew were safely disembarked and evacuated to the terminal using apron buses. Evacuation was completed without injury and concluded at 19:48 hrs,” FAAN stated.
The authority’s Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Services (ARFFS) were positioned on site to ensure safety, while the aircraft and surrounding airside areas were secured. Access to the runway was controlled, leading to a temporary shutdown of airport operations.
There were no reports of injuries or damage beyond the gear malfunction, and the response was described as swift and effective in protecting airport infrastructure and personnel.
