Ignore ‘Sounds of War’: Governor Fubara Urges Calm, Expresses Hope for Brighter 2026 in Rivers State

Port Harcourt, January 2, 2026

– Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has called on residents to remain calm and disregard alarming rhetoric amid ongoing political tensions, assuring that 2026 will bring improved fortunes, progress, and stability to the state.
In his New Year message delivered during a crossover service at the Government House Chapel of Everlasting Grace in Port Harcourt on New Year’s Eve, Governor Fubara emphasized reliance on prayer and peaceful engagement rather than confrontation.
“We do not have the instruments of war; the only thing we have is our knees, and we will continue to pray to God. Do not be troubled by the sounds of war you are hearing,” the governor said, urging citizens to stay unperturbed by unsettling reports.
Fubara reflected on the challenges of the past two years, acknowledging that some expectations remained unmet due to internal pressures and turbulence that slowed developmental pace. However, he expressed strong optimism, stating that the administration is entering 2026 with renewed strength, confidence, hope, and faith.
He assured residents that the state would witness visible progress, accelerated development, and renewed opportunities in the new year, while reaffirming his commitment to governance rooted in faith, perseverance, accountability, and service to the people.
The governor’s message comes against the backdrop of heightened verbal exchanges with political opponents, including recent statements from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, regarding the 2027 elections.
Fubara also praised President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, expressing confidence in his re-election in 2027 and thanking him for past support during difficult times.
The crossover service was attended by government officials, political leaders, clergy, and worshippers, who joined in prayers for sustained peace and development in Rivers State.
