In a move to strengthen the core administration of the Nigeria Police Force, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has approved the posting of Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Mohammed Adamu Dankwara as the new head of the vital Department of Finance and Administration.
The appointment was officially disclosed in a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, anipr, mipra, and made available to Clarion Newschannel TV.
The Department of Finance and Administration is a critical pillar within the Force, overseeing budget management, resource allocation, welfare issues, and general administration. The posting of DIG Dankwara to this sensitive role is seen as a key step by the IGP to ensure greater accountability and efficiency in the management of the Force’s resources.
This move is expected to directly support the operational effectiveness of officers across the country by ensuring streamlined administrative processes and robust financial oversight.
DIG Mohammed Adamu Dankwara brings a wealth of experience to this pivotal position. As a senior officer who has risen through the ranks, his background and expertise are deemed crucial for steering the department towards achieving the IGP’s vision of a modern, professionally managed, and accountable police force.
Security analysts suggest this appointment is part of IGP Egbetokun’s broader strategy to place round pegs in round holes, following a series of strategic postings aimed at reinvigorating the Force.
This reshuffle comes on the heels of other notable reforms, including the recent directive from the Lagos State Police Command banning indiscriminate searches of citizens’ phones—a policy that has been widely applauded for protecting civil liberties.
The appointment of DIG Dankwara signals the IGP’s focus on strengthening the administrative backbone of the Police Force. Effective policing is not only about frontline operations but also about the solid administrative and financial structures that support them. This posting is a clear indication that the current leadership is attentive to this critical need.
