Lagos Police Arrest Social Media Influencer ‘Peller’ Over Viral Reckless Driving, Attempted Suicide


Lagos, Nigeria – The Lagos State Police Command has announced the arrest and detention of 20-year-old social media influencer, Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as ‘Peller’.

His arrest follows a viral video that circulated online on Sunday, December 14, 2025, which showed Hamzat driving recklessly, live-streaming an act that culminated in a dangerous crash and serious motor accident.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the Command stated that Hamzat’s actions “constitutes a deliberate attempt to commit suicide and endangered the life of other innocent people.”

The suspect is currently in custody, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a detailed investigation. The police confirmed that upon conclusion of the probe, the suspect will be charged before a court of competent jurisdiction.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, issued a strong warning to social media influencers, content creators, and the general public. He cautioned against using online platforms to promote reckless, dangerous, or criminal acts that could lead to untimely death or cause a breach of public peace.

“Such lawlessness will not be tolerated and the full weight of the law will be applied on any offender,” the statement read.

The Command also urged all road users to adhere strictly to traffic regulations and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring public safety and order across the state.
