Abeokuta, December 26, 2025 –
The Ogun State Police Command has arrested eight suspects for breach of public peace, unlawful assembly, obstruction of traffic, and serious assault on police officers following a disturbance in Sango-Ota.
On Christmas Day, December 25, 2025, at Temidire Junction and Under-Bridge in Sango-Ota, a group operating under the name “Democratic Republic of the Yoruba” unlawfully barricaded roads, lit bonfires, disrupted traffic flow, and attacked police officers on duty to maintain order.
Police operatives quickly responded, dispersed the group, and apprehended the suspects: Adewale Sosanya (male, 48); Opeyemi Oladotun (male, 31); Zara Gabriel (female, 22); Ajoke Gabriel (female, 19); Adewale Adebomojo (female, 48); Yusuf Tanimowo (male, 40); Olurotimi Ademola (male, 52); and Toyin Gabriel (female, 40).
Recovered items include a Toyota Dyna vehicle used to transport the group, two broadcast speakers, a carton of flags and shirts with agitation inscriptions, and banners bearing their messages and manifesto.
The suspects are set to be charged in court once investigations are concluded.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, has reaffirmed the force’s commitment to protecting lives and property. He warned against any actions that could disturb public peace, stating that assaults on officers will face firm response, and called on citizens to stay law-abiding and report suspicious activities via the command’s emergency lines:
