Ogun Police Rescue Kidnap Victim Unharmed, Neutralize Suspects in Onipanu Operation
The Ogun State Police Command has recorded another major breakthrough in its ongoing fight against criminality, as a combined tactical team successfully rescued a kidnapped victim unhurt and neutralized two members of a kidnap gang in the Onipanu area of the state.
The incident occurred on October 27, 2025, at about 8:14 p.m., when five unidentified armed men invaded the residence of Alhaji Baki Hassan Atoyebi, switching off the generator in a ploy to lure the occupants outside.
Unaware of the lurking danger, the victim and another resident came out to check what they assumed was a mechanical fault. They were ambushed by the armed men, who abducted Alhaji Atoyebi and stole several items, including a POS machine, ₦900,000 cash, three mobile phones, a power bank, and keys to a Highlander and Corolla vehicle.
A few hours after the abduction, the kidnappers contacted the victim’s family using his phone, demanding a ransom of ₦30 million.
Responding swiftly, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, deployed a combined tactical squad comprising operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Anti-Crime Section, Surveillance Team, Vigilante Group, So-Safe Corps, and local hunters.
The team tracked the suspects to their hideout along a creek, where a gun battle ensued. Two of the kidnappers were neutralized, while others escaped with gunshot wounds. The victim was rescued unhurt, and his phones and vehicle keys were recovered from the scene.
Commending the successful operation, CP Ogunlowo lauded the bravery and collaboration among the various security units involved. He reaffirmed the command’s determination to make Ogun State unsafe for criminal elements, assuring residents of continued protection and swift response to distress calls.
