Petrol: Drivers urge Dangote to increase partner stations as MRS prices at N739/litre

Motorists in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are urging Dangote Refinery to expand its network of partner retail stations to enhance petrol accessibility, following a recent drop in pump prices.

Dangote Refinery has recently appointed MRS Oil as its partner retail outlet, offering petrol at N739 per litre nationwide. This price is notably lower than that of major competitors, such as NNPC Retail at N835, TotalEnergies at N920, Conoil at N910, Eterna at N889, and AYM Sharfa at N840.

However, inspections throughout Abuja have revealed a limited number of MRS stations. For instance, at Katampe along the AYA–Gaduma–Asokoro Road, the MRS station did not display its pump price and has seen long queues since the price reduction announcement, ceasing petrol sales daily at 7:00 p.m.

On the Nyanya–Karshi Road, only one of three MRS outlets was selling petrol at N739, while the others remained at N910 as of Tuesday.

At an MRS station on Airport Road, civil servant George Anosike expressed the need for more stations to ensure broader access to Dangote petrol. “MRS stations are quite sparse in Abuja. If more locations offer this price, more people can benefit from the Dangote initiative,” he stated.

Another driver, Joachim Jimbiri, remarked, “This is when we’re seeing the real benefits of the Dangote Refinery. Nigerians want this venture to succeed, but we need to enjoy cheaper petrol. Fuel shouldn’t exceed N500 per litre in our country. With our abundant crude oil and an operational refinery, petrol should be affordable.”

Consumers are hopeful that Dangote Refinery will react by expanding its network of partner stations throughout the FCT, facilitating access and maximizing the benefits of its price reduction.
