Table Mountain Hits 1 Million Visitors in 2025 Amid Tourism Surge

Clarion Newschannel – Cape Town, December 17, 2025
Cape Town’s iconic Table Mountain has welcomed one million visitors via the Aerial Cableway in 2025, marking a strong rebound in tourism for the Mother City.
The milestone coincides with the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC) celebrating its 33rd millionth visitor since operations began in 1929. The lucky visitor was a domestic tourist from Limpopo, honored on December 15.
Colette van Aswegen from TMACC highlighted early signs of recovery as far back as September, attributing the surge to increased airport arrivals, more direct international flights to Cape Town, and the kickoff of the cruise season.
This comes as South Africa’s tourism sector shows robust growth, with over 7.6 million international arrivals in the first nine months of 2025 – more than a million higher than the previous year.
In related news, the Border Management Authority (BMA) has intensified festive season operations, seizing illicit goods worth over R900,000 at the Beitbridge Port of Entry alone since the start of the 2025/26 period. Items include non-perishable food, 210 car batteries, and a Hyundai H100 truck, underscoring efforts to curb smuggling during the busy holiday travel season.
