Clarion Newschannel, Abeokuta – The Ogun State Police Command has strongly refuted a viral social media post circulating with the photograph of the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, PhD, describing it as deceptive, unauthorized, and made without any directive, approval, or recourse to the Command.
The Command stated that there has been a recent surge in unsolicited “security tips” online, some of which falsely insinuate a state of emergency or widespread insecurity in the state, thereby causing unnecessary panic among residents.
Police authorities further condemned the activities of certain individuals and groups who recycle old videos, publish alarming content, and use divisive language deliberately intended to cause panic and heighten fear among the people. Such mischief-makers have been sternly warned to immediately desist from posting frightening videos, voice-overs, or unverified claims, the majority of which are false.
In a reassurance to the public, the Ogun State Police Command urged residents and stakeholders to remain calm, stressing that all areas identified by well-meaning communities as needing police attention are under close surveillance. Additional police personnel and assets have been deployed to enhance safety and security in the affected locations.
The Command reiterated its commitment to the protection of lives and property, warning that anyone caught peddling reckless and unsolicited security information will face the full wrath of the law.
