LAGOS – In a seismic State of the Nation address on Sunday, Pastor Tunde Bakare broke a much-noted public silence, delivering a speech that was part spiritual warning, part security blueprint, and a scorching critique of Nigeria’s political class, whom he accused of “dancing on a hot stove” while the nation burned.
Speaking to a packed congregation at The Citadel Global Community Church in Ikeja, Lagos, under the theme “The Darkness Before Dawn,” Bakare asserted that the ongoing international storm triggered by former U.S. President Donald Trump’s threats did not catch him by surprise.
“In November 2024, immediately after the election of Donald Trump… God showed me a vision,” Bakare revealed. “I saw Air Force One land somewhere in Sabo, Yaba, Lagos. President Donald Trump stepped out… dressed in the thobe and ghutra… With a look of glee, he alighted… and declared, ‘We are here now.’”
Bakare termed this foresight “Spiritual Intelligence” (SPIRINT), a divine tool he claimed complements traditional security intelligence. He said his analysis of the vision predicted Trump’s intense focus on Nigeria would be driven by oil, minerals, technology interests in “Yabacon Valley,” and would carry severe religious implications, potentially leading to an “American occupation connected to a religious crisis.”
The clergyman, who was a running mate to former President Muhammadu Buhari, used the platform to launch a blistering attack on Nigeria’s successive governments. He stated that the flurry of activity from President Bola Tinubu’s administration only after Trump’s threat “betrays the fact that, before now, Nigerian leaders had buried their heads in the sand like ostriches.”
“It is a stain on the Nigerian government that it took the threat of external intervention to rouse leaders to their responsibilities,” he declared, adding that the political class had been “preoccupied with the politics of chaos” ahead of the 2027 elections.
Bakare devoted a significant part of his speech to dissecting the foundational “Nigeria Question”—issues of identity, dignity, and governance left unresolved since independence. He provided a zone-by-zone analysis of the nation’s security and political crises.
He was particularly unequivocal on the situation in the Middle Belt, directly confronting government narratives on farmer-herder clashes.
“To deny the fact that Christians have been targeted for their faith in the North Central or Middle Belt zone would be to turn the truth on its head,” he stated. “It is a shame on the Nigerian government that these communities would resort to calling on the American government to help because their own government has failed them woefully.”
Moving from critique to prescription, Bakare presented President Bola Tinubu with a detailed, phased set of recommendations, challenging him to “take the bull by the horns.”
Within 100 Days (Short-Term), Bakare demands:
1. A presidential apology to named victimized communities and a Victims Register.
2. “Tech-to-Industry Diplomacy” – a strategic handshake between Silicon Valley and Yabacon Valley for AI-enabled warfare tech.
3. A transactional “business deal” with Donald Trump to secure Nigeria’s interests.
4. Executive bills to the National Assembly to activate the federalization of the police.
Within One Year (Mid-Term), he proposes a high-powered Presidential Commission for National Reconciliation, Reintegration and Restructuring.
By 2030 (Long-Term), his radical blueprint includes:
· Transforming the Federal Police into a national investigative body.
· Creating Zonal Security Councils with state police.
· Holding a constitutional referendum to let Nigerians decide their governance structure.
Bakare concluded by urging Nigerians not to despair, asserting that the nation’s story would change “from shame to fame.”
The address, arguably one of the most comprehensive and provocative interventions in Nigeria’s current political crisis, immediately set social media and political circles ablaze. It places immense pressure on the Tinubu administration to move beyond reactive security measures and address the fundamental restructuring that has been debated for decades.
President Tinubu’s office has yet to respond to the specific claims and recommendations made in the broadcast.
