Lagos State Launches Building Amnesty Programme: Property Owners to Enjoy Penalty Waivers and 5% Discount on Approvals

The Lagos State Government has officially launched an Amnesty Programme for property owners and developers, aimed at encouraging the regularization of buildings constructed without official approval.

The initiative offers significant incentives, including penalty waivers and a 5% discount on assessment fees for prompt payment.

Under the programme, property owners will not be charged the usual penalties associated with unapproved structures. Those who complete their assessment payments within ten working days will also benefit from a 5% discount on the total fee.

The amnesty initiative further allows property owners to legalize their buildings, thereby increasing their market value and ensuring security of ownership.

By bringing more properties into formal compliance, the state government aims to enhance urban safety, prevent illegal demolitions, and promote sustainable urban development.

According to the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA), regularizing properties through the programme not only safeguards investments but also contributes to revenue generation and orderly urban growth.
